Not all hyperbarics clinics are created equal

It seems as though I see clinics and spas adding HBOT to their services on a monthly basis and here are a few things to consider over just pricing as you do your research on Hyperbarics medicine.

Here at Total Body Works we are staying current on our education and application of hyperbarics.
The owner John Marshall runs the clinic and is certified as a functional medicine chamber operator (FMCO) and as a hyperbarics technician certified in hyperbarics medicine. We are also certified as a safety director by the international board of undersea medicine (IBUM).

If you are curious and or nervous about this great alternative to conventional medicine and treatments feel free to give John a call and he can reserve a private appointment for you to come in to see how we operate and to ask any questions you may have so you can feel comfortable about your decisions.

Now offering Hyperbaric oxygen therapy

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?

Traditionally HBOT has been used for wound care and more recently diabetic foot wounds, air and gas embolism, carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation, gas gangrene, thermal burns, decompression sickness, and acute mountain sickness. Today it is more accepted in many forms of sickness and disfunctions. We can help treat everything from diabetes, low energy, Lyme disease, cerebral palsy, head injuries, brain injuries (TBI), Chronic fatigue, MS, ALS, anemia, wound and scar healing, post-stroke care, post surgical care and healing, sports performance, autism, dementia, and bells palsy just to touch on a few.

How Does HBOT Work?

Under normal human functions, oxygen is absorbed into circulation when we breathe and only transported through the body by red blood cells. Under higher atmospheric pressure that hyperbarics can provide, oxygen can be dissolved into the body's plasma, lymphatic system, the central nervous system fluids and bone tissue. This allows for the delivery of many more times the normal oxygen to our tissues and cells allowing for healing processes that may be compromised in a lower oxygen level environment.

Primary Benefits of HBOT

  • Immediate increase in free floating oxygen
  • New blood vessel growth
  • Increased white blood cell function
  • Nerve healing factors
  • Wound healing
  • Stem cell release
  • Decrease swelling from damaged tissues
  • Mitochondrial healing
  • Reduction of inflammation
  • Anti-microbial/microbiome balancing

Frequently Asked Questions

When you are trying something new it can often make you feel a bit anxious or nervous. We want you to know that HBOT is completely safe and effective. With your first experience we would like to share some information with you to ease the tension.

While in the chamber you will feel pressure in your ears, just as if you were to be on an airplane. This will occur approximately during the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of the session, while the chamber is pressurizing and depressurizing. We highly encourage our clients to keep up with this pressure by equalizing (popping your ears) as the pressure changes.
HBOT sessions will last about 1 hour to 90 minutes depending on the protocol or situation we are working with. If you are not planning on taking a nap, feel free to bring some items to pass the time.
Typically, the temperature inside the chamber does tend to vary. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that are 100% cotton. Due to the variety of temperatures, we also suggest wearing layers so you can make adjustments accordingly. We do have a pillow that is in the chamber and can provide a blanket as well for added comfort.
Please keep any jewelry to a minimum. No sharp objects allowed.
Each situation can vary and the hyperbaric technician can speak with you to determine the best protocol, and it also can depend on the disease or situation we are working to improve and the mechanisms and body systems that are dysfunctional.
Hyperbarics (HBOT) has an extremely good safety record, many hyperbarics clinics report only mild ear discomfort as contraindication to the therapy. such discomfort is very similar to air travel in most cases and can be regulated and discussed with the hyperbaric technician.
In the United States in some cases insurance will cover On-Label indications such as gangrene, radiation burns, carbon monoxide poisoning and decompression sickness.
Traditionally Off-Label conditions we will be using hyperbarics for in our office are not covered by insurance.
